Fallon, Nevada Overview

Fallon spawned during the California Gold Rush as travelers stopped along the Carson River in the 40-Mile Desert, one of the most dangerous expanses of the Emigrant Trail. However, Fallon really started booming once the Newland Project began in 1903, providing irrigation to the town of Fallon from the Truckee River and Carson River. Later in the 1920s, Fallon became home to the “Heart O’ Gold” cantaloupe, where they were grown and distributed all over the U.S. This inspired the annual Fallon Cantaloupe Festival.

Fallon is located roughly 30 miles west of both Fernley and Silver Springs and is an hour’s drive from Reno. While the town is remote, it has developed into a lively and enjoyable community. Restaurants like The Overland, Courtyard Café, The Slanted Porch, Sandwinds, and La Fiesta line both sides of Lincoln Highway. Giant statues of airplanes adorn the highway in honor of Naval Air Station Fallon. Stillwater Plaza is a shopping center with Anytime Fitness, Pizza Factory, and Dotty’s Casino. Walmart Supercenter is west of the shopping center. On the eastern side is Valley Plaza with Louie’s ACE Home Center, Ana’s Cafe, Jerry’s Restaurant, and Pizza Barn.

Churchill County Aquatic Center is an indoor swim facility providing a variety of water safety training courses, children’s swim lessons, and is home to two swim teams. The Churchill County Regional Park surrounds the swimming center with tennis courts, a multi-use soccer field, a disc golf course, and a dog park. The Churchill County Fairgrounds are also located within the regional park’s grounds, holding events from February through November. Oats Park is a beautiful recreation area in the middle of the community and includes the Municipal Swimming Pool, Oats Park Art Center, a playground, a large multi-use field, two tennis courts, and a baseball field. The Fallon Youth Club is in the same lot as Oats Park, dedicated to providing a welcoming atmosphere to children of Fallon.

Laura Mills Park is another pleasant park available to the community. Laura Mills features a circular walking path, big fields, a gazebo, and a playground. The exquisite Fallon Golf Course makes it way along the Carson River with an abundance of wildlife calling the course home. The 9-hole course offers a driving range and putting green to its visitors, in addition to the Fallon Golf Course Clubhouse. The clubhouse has a banquet hall that accommodates up to 200 people for your next event.
